An IndiGo Airbus A321's tail touched the runway during a go-around in heavy rain at Mumbai Airport
On 16 August 2025, an IndiGo Airbus A321 faced a tail strike at a low height at Mumbai Airport at a low height at a low height. The incident occurred during heavy rains, which reduced the visibility and became challenging the situation of landing. Despite the tail strike, the aircraft landed safely in its second attempt at around 3 pm.
An Indigo spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated that the aircraft would be resumed only after necessary investigations, repairs and regulatory approval. The airline insisted that the safety of customers, crew and aircraft is its top priority. This marks the seventh tail strike involving IndiGo's A321 fleet in approximately two years, raising concerns about the airline's safety practices. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had previously raised issues regarding the airline's training and engineering procedures following similar incidents. In 2023, the DGCA imposed a ₹30 lakh fine on IndiGo due to four tail strike incidents within six months.
The recent incident underscores the importance of stringent safety protocols and pilot training, especially during adverse weather conditions. Passengers are advised to stay informed about flight statuses and potential delays during such weather events.
