Delhi is set to face a heatwave in the coming week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting temperatures between 40°C and 42°C on April 7 and 8. A heatwave alert has also been issued for several north Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. On Friday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4°C—4.4 degrees above normal.
From April 5 to 8, Delhi is expected to experience increasing temperatures, peaking on April 7 and 8, with no warm night conditions anticipated. Heatwave conditions may also impact Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Maharashtra during this period.
The IMD has warned that from April to June, India is likely to see above-normal temperatures and more frequent heat waves, particularly in central, eastern, and northwestern states. Some regions may experience up to 11 heatwave days.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Northeast India are forecasted to receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Isolated hailstorms are also expected in Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states between April 5 and 6.
