Former Chief Justices of India, J.S. Khehar and D.Y. Chandrachud, engaged with the parliamentary panel reviewing the simultaneous elections bill on Friday (July 11, 2025), during the committee’s eighth meeting.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee, chaired by BJP MP P.P. Chaudhary has been consulting with jurists and legal experts to shape its recommendations on the proposed legislation.
Previously, former Chief Justices U.U. Lalit and Ranjan Gogoi also appeared before the panel. While neither raised concerns about the bill’s constitutionality, they did highlight certain issues and provided suggestions for improvement.
