On Sunday afternoon, Delhi and its connected regions were cover by intense dust storms, creating chaos across the National Capital Region (NCR). Strong gusts and poor visibility caused by the abrupt weather change affected flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Due to several flights delays, passengers were encouraged to check with their airlines for the latest travel information.

The Delhi Airport posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), saying that flight movements were being impacted due to lame weather. "Our teams on the ground are working closely with all departments to assist passengers and maintain smooth airport functioning," the airport authority stated.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also provided a weather update around 5 PM, caution that strong dust storms followed by light rain and thunderstorms were likely in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and other parts of the NCR. At 4:35 PM, a downpour with wind speeds of up to 66 km/h was reported at Safdarjung, despite the forecast of breezy winds of 50 to 80 km/h.

Locals uploaded videos to the internet showing the spectacular scenes of trees bending, leaves flying, and visibility decreasing as the storm moved through. While some areas witnessed brief downpours, others contended with wind gusts and foggy skies.

Officials have urged people to stay indoors, avoid not required travel, and observes weather conditions for their own safety. It is highly advised that passengers verify with their airlines prior to arriving at the airport.

These types of sudden onset weather upset remind one of the value of heightened awareness as well as timely communication. Although the stormy condition did not cause any damage in town, it reminded everyone about how volatile nature can be and how it impacts travel and day-to-day life in cities.
