Union minister Chirag Paswan faces a chilling death threat on social media. A formal complaint has been filed, underscoring growing digital risks for political figures during election season.

Union minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan was recently targeted with a disturbing death threat made via social media. The incident, arriving at a tense time before the Bihar assembly elections, triggered swift action and concern among his team.

The threat came through Instagram from a user with the alias ‘Tiger Meraj Idisi,’ who ominously warned of killing or bombing the minister. LJP spokesperson Rajesh Bhatt promptly lodged a complaint at the Patna Cyber Police Station, urging authorities to act swiftly and arrest those responsible.

Cyber DCP Nitish Chandra Dharia confirmed that on the night of July 11 at around 9 pm, the threat was received and a formal FIR has been registered. The cybercrime unit has launched an investigation. The minister’s camp believes the threat stems from his rising popularity and active role in upcoming elections.

Paswan, who recently announced his intent to contest Bihar’s full slate of 243 assembly seats, is a high-profile Dalit leader. His opponents say this threat indicates a profound concern digital platforms are increasingly weaponized to intimidate politicians and disrupt democratic processes.

This incident also took out political alertness. JDU minister Maheshwar Hazari called for clarity on Paswan’s poll strategy, suggesting that heightened visibility could be fuelling such threats. Security teams are now reviewing Paswan’s digital safety protocols and election campaign protections.

As the electoral atmosphere is getting hot, digital threats are emerging as a worrying new front. Officers should not only find out these anonymous threats, but also create a strong digital security system around the public representatives. For Paswan and other leaders, taking effective steps against online dangers has now become as important as their public publicity campaign.
