A crude bomb explosion in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district claimed one life and left another person injured, police said on Saturday (July 5, 2025). The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in Rajoa village under the Katwa sub-division, sparking fear among local residents. The force of the blast was so powerful that it tore off the tin roof of the house where the bombs were reportedly being made.

According to residents, the explosion happened in an abandoned house known to be frequented by anti-social elements and allegedly used for manufacturing crude explosives. “Two loud explosions shook the entire neighborhood, rattling doors and windows,” one local said.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted and discovered a charred body inside the building. Another man, identified as Tufan Chowdhury, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Initial investigations suggest that a local criminal had assembled a group of individuals to make country-made bombs in the house when the blast occurred. “We are looking into whether the location was being used as a bomb-making site and are exploring other possible connections,” a police official said.

The deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and a forensic team is expected to conduct a thorough examination of the site.
