A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence in exchange for money. He was presented before a National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in New Delhi, which emphasized that the allegations pose a threat to national security and the safety of both Indian citizens and visitors. Consequently, the court sent the jawan to NIA custody until June 6, stressing the importance of investigating the information he reportedly passed on to Pakistan.
The court highlighted that the armed forces form the foundation of the nation’s strength and security, and any attempt to undermine this poses serious risks requiring thorough investigation. The jawan faces charges under sections 15, 16, and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), related to terrorism and conspiracy. This arrest comes amid heightened anti-terror operations following the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which claimed 26 tourists' lives, targeting those aiding Pakistan by sharing critical intelligence.
According to the NIA, the accused, Moti Ram Jat, has been involved in espionage since 2023, sharing classified national security information with Pakistani intelligence officers and receiving payments through various channels. He was arrested in Delhi and is currently under interrogation, with custody extended until June 6 by the Special Court at Patiala House.
Separately, Gujarat’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) arrested Sahadev Singh Gohil from the Kachchh region for spying for Pakistan, allegedly providing sensitive information about the border, BSF, and Indian Navy. Working as a health worker, Gohil reportedly received Rs 40,000 for his activities. He was reportedly honey-trapped by a Pakistani agent named Aditi Bhardwaj over WhatsApp, who extracted details about the area and security forces from him.
