As India’s diplomatic missions reach out globally, the Congress party on Tuesday (May 27, 2025) claimed that opposition MPs are presenting the country’s position abroad more effectively than government representatives. Congress further accused the BJP-led government of being “run, inspired, and operated by trolls” and urged the public to compare the responses of the BJP and the opposition following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

At a press conference, Congress communications chief Pawan Khera criticized the political drama around the delegation member selection, highlighting that while some BJP MPs were merely sightseeing and tweeting, Congress MPs were earnestly representing India's interests. In a veiled reference to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, Khera said a ruling party MP was regularly posting toxic content about the opposition.

Khera emphasized that Congress leaders had promptly shown solidarity with the government in the wake of the April 22 attack. Rahul Gandhi cut short his overseas trip, visited Pahalgam and Poonch, and the Congress Working Committee issued a statement supporting national security efforts.

However, Khera accused the BJP of indulging in divisive politics, spreading communal tension through social media, and using the crisis for political gain. He also raised concerns over the inclusion of Congress members in diplomatic delegations, suggesting bias, and questioned the lack of clarity from the Modi government on terrorist accountability, ceasefire terms, and the weakening of India’s foreign position, especially regarding Pakistan and China.
