Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Thursday, July 3, 2025, that the Char Dham Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions. Emphasizing that the safety of pilgrims is the top priority, Dhami stated, “In light of the current weather, we have decided to pause the Char Dham Yatra. It will resume only when conditions are deemed safe. All our officials, along with disaster management teams and both national and state disaster response forces, are fully prepared.”
In particular, the Kedarnath Dham Yatra has been halted because of falling debris and rocks at the Munkatia Sliding Zone in the Sonprayag region, according to police. "The road is currently blocked due to landslides and debris. The yatra will restart once the route is cleared," the Rudraprayag police said in a post on X.
The Char Dham Yatra — which includes pilgrimages to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri — is one of Hinduism’s most sacred spiritual journeys. In recent years, the Uttarakhand government has implemented major infrastructure improvements such as upgraded roads, helicopter services, and better lodging facilities to enhance the safety and comfort of pilgrims.
This year, Kedarnath Dham has witnessed a record-breaking number of devotees, a surge attributed to both improved amenities and rising spiritual interest. Authorities have also strengthened security and emergency medical arrangements to manage the pilgrimage at high altitudes effectively. Situated at over 11,000 feet in the Himalayas, the Kedarnath temple — dedicated to Lord Shiva — holds immense religious significance. The temple opened for devotees this year on May 2.
