Ravikumar Tummalacharla, CEO of Cleanrooms Containments, has sparked a debate by criticizing the large number of public and optional holidays in India, claiming they disrupt workflow and lower productivity. In a recent LinkedIn post, the Hyderabad-based CEO highlighted that April 2025 alone had over 10 holidays, leading to stalled operations and minimal file movement across offices. He argued that India's holiday culture could damage its global reputation and urged Prime Minister Modi and the Labour Ministry to reassess the frequency of holidays.
Tummalacharla compared India’s work ethic to that of China, which he claimed is far ahead due to its focus on economic growth. His post drew criticism for including weekends and optional holidays, with users emphasizing the need for work-life balance. In response, he defended his viewpoint, encouraging critics to think from a job creator’s perspective. He added that true growth stems from purpose and discipline, not comfort, and questioned whether holidays are truly valued or just seen as extended breaks. He emphasized the need for more contributors over critics in India’s workforce.
