The BJP has announced that Abdul Rauf Azhar, the younger brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, was among the terrorists killed in India’s Operation Sindoor airstrikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The strikes, carried out in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, targeted nine locations, including the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur.

The BJP shared a post on social media featuring Abdul Rauf Azhar’s photo, with the word "eliminated" added. A wanted terrorist, Abdul Rauf Azhar was the mastermind behind the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines IC 814 in Kandahar, which also led to the release of Masood Azhar. He was also involved in the Pathankot terror attack and the 2001 attack on India's Parliament.

Masood Azhar, in a statement, confirmed that ten members of his family, including his sister, her husband, children, and other relatives, were killed in the airstrike on the JeM headquarters. He expressed no regret over their deaths, instead claiming that he felt a sense of spiritual fulfillment and would have joined them in death if his time had come.
