A recently built railway overbridge in Bhopal has triggered a wave of public concern due to its unusual 90-degree turn. Located near Aishbagh Stadium, the 648-meter-long structure aims to ease traffic congestion caused by the now-defunct Aishbagh railway crossing. However, the sharp bend in the bridge's layout has led to widespread discussion online and among local residents, many of whom fear it could become an accident-prone zone. With a cost of ₹18 crore, the bridge is yet to be officially inaugurated but is already under scrutiny for its design.

The overbridge connects key areas including Mahamai Ka Bagh, Pushpa Nagar, the station vicinity, and parts of New Bhopal. It is expected to benefit nearly three lakh commuters daily. Despite these advantages, the tight turn has raised eyebrows. Critics argue that such an angle is unsafe for regular traffic flow, especially under poor visibility or high-speed conditions. Social media users have mocked the turn, with some calling it a “death angle” and questioning the accountability of planners and engineers behind the project. The issue has ignited public frustration over infrastructure quality and urban planning in the state capital.

Defending the design, officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) pointed to space constraints caused by the nearby metro station as the main reason for the sharp turn. Chief Engineer VD Verma stated that available land was limited, leaving no alternative for the alignment. He also clarified that the overbridge is intended for small vehicles only, with safety measures and speed limits set in accordance with Indian Road Congress norms. PWD Minister Rakesh Singh acknowledged the criticism but emphasized that multiple technical factors are reviewed during such projects, assuring an investigation if genuine concerns arise.
