New Delhi: Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika on Monday alleged that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was attacked by Congress workers during an event, accusing the party of trying to "damage democracy" in the state. In a stringent statement posted on X, Hazarika claimed that Congress -backed persons targeted the Chief Minister with bottles. He said, "In this way, Assam Congress tried to harm democracy in Assam. Today his goons attacked the Chief Minister of Assam with bottles, tomorrow the same goons will throw grenade?" Calling the alleged attackers as "cowards", Hazarika notified of strict consequences. He specifically tagged Gaurav Gogoi, saying, "These cowards will not be spared both electoral and legally."

This alleged occurrence has revealed sharp political reactions. The ruling BJP has ordered the attack and demanded action against the people involved. There is no immediate response from the Congress to the minister's allegations.
