A wall collapse at Visakhapatnam's Simhachalam temple during Chandanamahotsavam left 7 dead and several injured. Rescue teams are at the site as officials monit
At least seven people lost their lives and several others were injured early Wednesday after a cement wall collapsed at the Simhachalam temple in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The tragedy occurred as devotees were queuing for the ₹300 ticket during the annual Chandanamahotsavam celebrations at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. The collapse happened amidst a large crowd, with visuals from earlier in the day showing devotees, including Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams chairman BR Naidu, presenting silk clothes (pattu vastras) to the deity.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local fire and police teams actively involved. The injured have been taken to hospitals under NDRF and SDRF supervision.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his condolences, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the death of seven devotees due to the wall collapse triggered by heavy rain. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.” He added that he had spoken with local officials and is closely monitoring developments.
Home Minister V Anitha visited the site, overseeing rescue operations alongside the District Collector and Police Commissioner.
