A routine school commute in Buxar, Bihar, turned frightening on July 10 when a private school bus veered off the road and overturned near Sarenja village, leaving 20 young students injured. Their distress was immediate; locals quickly pulled them from the wreckage and rushed them to Chausa Community Health Centre, before transferring a few with serious wounds to Buxar Sadar Hospital.
Rajpur SHO Gyan Prakash Singh said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then plunged into a roadside ditch. Reports show some children may have suffered fractures in their arms or legs, while others sustained minor injuries. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported.
Villagers swiftly reflected worse outcomes. By forming a human chain, they ensured that all injured students were safely evacuated. The community effort provided a prompt lifeline before professional responders arrived.
This accident highlights serious security concerns. Old, narrow paths can be the main reasons contributing to such incidents. It is like a repetition of many other tragic incidents such as the recent Buxar accident, where dozens of people were injured. The repeated recurrence of these incidents indicates fundamental flaws in the school transport system.
After this incident, local authorities and school administration should be cautious and ensure regular check -up of vehicles, drivers should be certified, and improve road safety near the villages. Such steps can prevent such disturbing events in future and make children's daily journey more secure.
