Truck Rampage on Jaipur Highway Kills 12

A horrifying chain-collision on Monday afternoon shook the busy Sikar Road in Jaipur’s Harmada region, when an empty dumper truck lost control and ploughed into several vehicles, leaving at least 12 people dead, and many more wounded.

According to the local authorities, the incident occurred around 1 pm near the Loha Mandi petrol pump when traffic was moving normally. The trailer truck came from Road No. 14 and suddenly careened into cars and other vehicles over a distance of nearly 300 metres. Local residents, in sheer panic, rushed to help those trapped in mangled wrecks while police and disaster crews arrived soon after. The vehicles were heavily damaged, debris littered the road, and the scene turned chaotic as emergency services tried to calm the crowd and attend the injured.

Angered and grief-stricken, locals staged a protest right at the crash site, blocking the road to demand action from the administration. They alleged negligence in traffic oversight and called for the driver’s immediate arrest.

This tragic event follows another major accident just a day earlier, in which 15 pilgrims lost their lives when a tempo traveller rammed into a parked truck near Matoda village.

The district collector, Jitendra Soni, confirmed the death toll and noted that identification of the victims is ongoing. Authorities are investigating the cause of the dumper’s loss of control and whether mechanical failure, overspeeding or human error played a role.

Such repeated road-accidents raise serious questions about the enforcement of vehicle safety norms, driver training, road conditions, and emergency response preparedness in growing cities. In the aftermath of this crash, the local administration faces mounting pressure to tighten truck operations, ensure speed-governed travel on busy roads, and enhance public safety systems to prevent such tragic losses of life.
