Chaos broke out mid air on a Lufthansa flight going from Chicago to Frankfurt when a 28 year old Indian man, named Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, suddenly went violent. He attacked two 17 year old boys using a small metal fork and even slapped a woman sitting nearby, leaving everyone completely shaken.
Witnesses said it all happened so sudden one teen got stabbed in the shoulder and the other got hit at the back of his head. After that, the man started making weird gestures, pointing his fingers like a gun and pretending to shoot himself.
Cabin crew and few passengers quickly jumped in to control him. They somehow managed to hold him down till the pilot made an emergency diversion to Boston Logan International Airport. The moment flight landed, the FBI and airport police took him into custody.
Later, investigators found that Usiripalli had come to the U.S. on a student visa a few years back but had overstayed, which made his stay illegal. Now he is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon aboard an aircraft, a serious federal crime that could give him up to ten years in jail and a 250,000 dollars fine.
No one died thankfully, but the whole incident scared many passengers and raised serious questions about safety during long flights. Officials are still checking what made him act so violently some say it might be a mental health issue or sudden breakdown.
Experts are calling this a big reminder that anything can happen thousands of feet up in the air. They say airlines might need better crew training for handling violent or unstable passengers and maybe stronger checks before boarding.
People on that flight are said to be recovering from the shock. For everyone who travels often, this was another reminder that while flying is safe most of the time, it only takes one moment of chaos to turn peace into panic.
