Today’s travel plans have been thrown into disarray for many flyers as IndiGo India’s largest airline canceled dozens of scheduled flights across major airports due to dense fog and adverse weather conditions affecting visibility and runway operations.
The disruptions were particularly severe at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where heavy early-morning fog sharply reduced visibility, forcing authorities to cancel a significant number of flights and issue travel advisories urging passengers to check their status before heading to the airport.
According to airline and airport sources, over 50 to 100+ IndiGo flights were canceled across key domestic routes on Tuesday, with popular sectors between Delhi and Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, and other cities among those affected. Travelers reported receiving SMS notifications from the airline about cancellations, while others expressed frustration over sudden changes to their journey plans.
This latest wave of cancellations comes amid an ongoing period of operational challenges for the carrier, already grappling with fleet scheduling and crew management issues in recent weeks. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been closely monitoring the situation, especially as winter weather patterns continue to complicate domestic schedules.
For passengers booked on impacted flights, IndiGo has advised checking flight status online or via its mobile app before setting out for the airport. The airline’s systems allow travelers to track real-time updates, obtain revised schedules, and manage rebooking where necessary.
Many affected flyers shared personal stories on social media, describing how early departures were abruptly canceled and reshuffled, leaving holiday and business travel plans hanging in balance. Some passengers waited for hours at airport lounges hoping for standby opportunities, while others opted to reschedule or seek alternative routes.
Airport officials stressed that safety is the top priority, emphasizing that operations will only proceed when weather and visibility conditions are deemed safe for takeoff and landing. They also urged travelers to allow extra time for check-in, and to stay in close contact with their airline for updates.
As winter weather persists and dense fog continues in parts of the Indo-Gangetic plains, more disruptions cannot be ruled out. Passengers planning flights over the coming days are encouraged to regularly monitor weather advisories and flight statuses to avoid unnecessary delays and inconvenience.
