New Delhi is reeling under shock after fresh details emerged in the Red Fort blast case, revealing how the prime suspect meticulously circled Connaught Place hours before the explosion. The route, caught on several CCTV cameras, paints a grim picture of premeditated planning and exposes worrying lapses in urban security.

Investigators have confirmed that the suspect, identified as Mohammed Umar, entered Delhi from Faridabad early Monday morning. The white i20 car he drove was first seen at a fuel station in Okhla, where he paused briefly before continuing his journey toward Connaught Place.

Surveillance footage from around 2:30 p.m. shows the car circling the bustling inner circle multiple times almost as if the suspect was assessing crowd density and police presence. From there, the vehicle made its way toward the Red Fort area, parking near Sunehri Masjid for nearly three hours. Police sources say Umar remained inside the car during this time, likely preparing the explosive device.

At approximately 6:48 p.m., the car was seen moving toward the Red Fort metro gate. Minutes later, a massive explosion ripped through the area, killing nine people and injuring dozens. Witnesses described scenes of panic as smoke filled the air and nearby vehicles caught fire.

Authorities have since collected over 1,000 CCTV clips from the car’s 12-hour route through Delhi. Investigators are also probing whether two other men seen earlier with Umar near Faridabad were part of the plot.

Security experts warn that the incident exposes deep flaws in city surveillance and rapid-response mechanisms. “Delhi’s central zone is supposed to be one of the most secure regions in the country,” said a retired officer. “If a car can circle Connaught Place and reach the Red Fort unnoticed, we need serious introspection.”
