Israel attacks Gaza strip early Tuesday while Hamas threatens that hostages fate is unknown now, it seems the war has resumed after a period of relative calm.
Israel launched a wave of massive airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on 18 March 2025, early Tuesday on what it said is the “heaviest assault” on the territory since a ceasefire took place in January. Palestinians reported at least 235 deaths while Hamas officials said Israel strikes killed a general who headed the Gaza interior ministry.
Hamas sources said Israel has decided to sacrifice their hostages after upending the ceasefire agreement and shattering a period of relative calm. “Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to resume war is a decision to sacrifice the occupation’s prisoners and impose a death sentence on them,” Hamas official Izzat al-Rishq said in a statement.
Israel also promised to increase military forces in Gaza. The Israeli officials say it's because of Hamas’s continuous refusal to release the hostages and rejection of all offers it received from the US envoy Steve Witkoff and mediators.
Many Palestinians said they had expected a return to war when the ceasefire agreements did not proceed as scheduled in early February.
