Zepto, a popular quick-delivery service, is facing trouble in Mumbai’s Dharavi area after Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended its food licence. Visit for surprise inspection that brings out alarming issues with food handling and storage, the action was taken.

The inspection team found food items in very poor condition, with some showing signs of mold. Temperature control in the cold storage units was not up to standard, putting perishable items at danger. To make situation worse, there was unclear system to keep expired goods apart from fresh ones, increasing risk towards those chances of customers are getting bad quality products.

Health officers also noticed that several food packets were lying directly on damp, grimy floors. In one part of the facility, they even discovered items being kept near standing dirty water, which raised serious red flags about cleanliness. Such surroundings can easily lead to contamination, making the food unsafe to consume.

The inspection wasn’t random; it was prompted by a tip received by Maharashtra’s FDA Minister, Yogen Kadam. Acting on the alert, the FDA carried out a thorough check and decided to suspend Zepto’s food business operations in the area until the problems are fixed.

A senior official from the department mentioned that public health is the top priority, and no company, big or small, will be allowed to compromise on food safety. The authorities emphasized that cleanliness, proper storage, and clear labelling are normal requirements that every food business must follow.

This incident serves as a reminder that fast delivery can never come at the cost of food quality. As consumers, it’s significant to know that safety checks are in place, and when businesses fall down, action is taken to protect our health.
