Rising Yamuna floodwaters have inundated luxury farmhouses in Noida, submerging pools, lawns, and banquet halls.
Noida has witnessed severe flooding as the Yamuna River's water levels rose to 200.6 meters at the Okhla Barrage, surpassing the danger mark. The floodwaters have inundated several luxury farmhouses situated along the river's floodplain, submerging swimming pools, meticulously maintained lawns, and banquet halls. These upscale properties, once symbols of opulence, have been transformed into waterlogged areas, highlighting the vulnerability of structures built in flood-prone zones.
The situation has prompted authorities to release 2.4 lakh cusecs of water from the barrage to manage the rising levels. Approximately 3,000 residents have been displaced, seeking refuge on embankments and in relief camps set up by local agencies. The flooding has disrupted daily life, with many facing the loss of property and livelihood.
This event underscores the pressing need for urban planning that considers environmental factors and the increasing unpredictability of weather patterns. It also calls for a reevaluation of construction practices in flood-prone areas to mitigate future risks and ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
