Two women Naxalites were killed in a gunfight with security forces in the dense forests of Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, officials confirmed on Thursday. The encounter took place late Wednesday evening under the jurisdiction of the Kohkameta police station in the Abhujmaad area during a coordinated anti-Naxal operation. A joint team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) was carrying out the operation based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of senior Maoist cadres.

The DRG personnel involved belonged to Narayanpur and Kondagaon districts, both regions with longstanding Naxal activity. Authorities reported that the firefight led to the deaths of two women cadres linked to the Maad division of the Maoists. Alongside the bodies, security forces recovered an INSAS rifle and a .315 bore rifle from the encounter site. The operation was still ongoing at the time of the report, with forces combing the area to track down any remaining insurgents.

This encounter is part of a broader security push by Chhattisgarh police and paramilitary forces to eliminate Naxal presence in the region. The Narayanpur district remains one of the most challenging areas in the state due to frequent Maoist activities. Officials have intensified their operations, relying on intelligence-based actions to disrupt the insurgents’ networks and leadership. While encounters like this mark tactical successes, authorities acknowledge the continuing threat posed by the Maoists in the forested zones, maintaining a strong presence and vigilance to ensure long-term peace and stability in the affected districts.
