A terrorist attack at a resort in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday left one tourist dead and 12-13 others injured, according to police reports. The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police rushed to Baisaran meadows after shots were heard. Special Forces have reached the mountaintop at Baisar, and a massive cordon and search operation is underway to locate the attackers. The terrorists fired for approximately 3 to 5 minutes before fleeing the scene, with no exchange of fire reported so far.
The Army has not ruled out the possibility of a targeted killing. The situation remains fluid, with the number of injured potentially rising as more details emerge. A joint operation by the Indian Army, JKP SoG, CRPF, and other forces is ongoing. The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, condemned the attack, assuring that the perpetrators would be punished.
One woman survivor shared that the terrorists first asked her name and religion before opening fire, adding that her husband was shot in the head. Authorities continue to provide rescue and medical assistance, and the situation is being closely monitored.
