Ricky Rai, son of the late underworld figure N Muthappa Rai, was reportedly shot at by unidentified attackers near his residence in Karnataka's Bidadi area, located in Ramanagara district. As per a PTI report, Rai is currently receiving medical treatment at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru.
The shooting occurred between 1 am and 1:30 am on Saturday while Rai was en route from Bidadi to Bengaluru. According to police, unidentified assailants opened fire on his car. A bullet pierced the vehicle’s driver’s seat, injuring both the driver and Ricky Rai, who was seated in the back along with his security personnel.
Ramanagara Superintendent of Police Srinivas Gowda confirmed the incident and said Rai was immediately referred to Bengaluru for further treatment.
Ricky Rai’s father, Muthappa Rai, was once a bank employee before being pulled into the world of crime. He ran a cabaret club on Bengaluru’s Brigade Road and turned to violence to protect his business. His notoriety rose in 1989 after he and his associates killed rival gangster MP Jayaraj. Muthappa Rai died on May 15, 2020, after battling brain cancer.
