Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has cut short his visit to the United States and will return to New Delhi on Thursday to attend a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed at least 26 lives. Senior party leader Jairam Ramesh confirmed the change in plans via a post on X.
The Congress party has called an emergency CWC meeting on Thursday, April 24, at 11:00 AM in response to the tragic attack. Venugopal also shared that he had arrived in Srinagar earlier to pay respects to the victims, stating, "We must stand united, not only in mourning but also in our unwavering resolve against violence and terror."
Rahul Gandhi had previously spoken with Home Minister Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and local leaders for an update on the attack. He emphasized the need for justice for the victims' families. The attack, carried out by Lashkar-affiliated militants, targeted tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Meadows, leaving several dead and injured.
