On August 11, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 brand-new Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi marking a milestone in improving accommodation for lawmakers.
These flats are not your typical quarters they span around 5,000 square feet each, outclassing traditional Type-VIII bungalows in Lutyens’ Delhi. Each unit includes five bedrooms, separate office space, rooms for support staff, and attached bathrooms designed for both comfort and functionality.
Constructed in about two years using advanced RCC and aluminium shuttering instead of conventional bricks, the buildings stand as a feat of modern construction completed much faster and built to last more than a century. In addition, this construction includes environmental conscious characteristics, adherence to the Greha 3-Star standards and environmentally sustainable techniques. Prime Minister Modi underlined that this housing project not only removes the long -standing shortage of MP houses, but it also reflects the responsible use of public money - which reduces expensive rental needs and MPs can focus more on their public interest works.
He also launched the project as a model of unity, in which the towers have been named after the Indian rivers Krishna, Godavari, Kosi and Hooghly, to encourage cultural solidarity.
During the event, PM Modi subtly referenced political currents, suggesting the launch might make “some people feel uncomfortable” ahead of the Bihar elections a nod to his broader political narrative.
These flats aren’t just buildings they signify modern, dignified accommodation for public representatives reflecting efficiency, unity, and infrastructure that embraces India’s future needs.
