Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announces a ₹50 hike in LPG prices for both PMUY beneficiaries and others. New rates take effect from April 8, 2025.
The price of LPG cylinders has risen by Rs 50 for both subsidized and non subsidized consumers, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Monday, 7 April, 2024.
The hike applies to both Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries.
The new prices will come into effect from tomorrow, 8 April 2025.
“For PMUY beneficiaries, the price will rise from Rs 500 to Rs 550 per cylinder. For other consumers, it will increase from Rs 803 to Rs 853,” Puri stated.
He further added that the revision is subjected to periodic review typically 2-3 weeks.
Puri clarified that the recent increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel is not meant to burden consumers, but rather to help recover the ₹43,000 crore loss faced by oil marketing companies (OMCs) due to subsidized gas prices.
This clarification comes shortly after OMCs cut the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by ₹41.
Following the reduction, the updated retail price of commercial LPG in Delhi now stands at ₹1,762. This move brings some relief, especially after a ₹6 hike in commercial LPG prices across major cities in March.
