A landslip struck the old route leading to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Monday morning (July 21, 2025), injuring at least four pilgrims, officials confirmed. Triggered by heavy rainfall that hit Katra town the base camp for devotees heading to the revered shrine atop the Trikuta hills the landslip occurred around 8:50 a.m. at Gulshan Ka Langar near Banganga. This location is a key point where pony riders usually assemble along the old pilgrimage track.

Authorities promptly launched a rescue operation following the incident. Four pilgrims who were trapped under debris were successfully rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of the latest updates, the rescue efforts were still ongoing. The region has been experiencing consistent rainfall, raising the risk of such natural disruptions and prompting officials to maintain heightened alert along the pilgrimage route to ensure the safety of devotees making the uphill journey to the holy site.
