Heavy rains have triggered several landslides along National Highway 10 (NH-10), the key route linking Sevoke in West Bengal to Rangpo in Sikkim, causing significant disruption to traffic. The affected 52-km stretch has experienced blockages at various points including Kali Jhora, Seti Jhora, Selfie Dara, Birik Dara, and Melli, among others in West Bengal’s Kalimpong district. These landslides have left travelers facing delays and difficulties in commuting.
Authorities from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) have mobilized heavy equipment to remove the debris and expedite road restoration. While cleanup work is underway, authorities have permitted one-way traffic in certain sections to ease congestion, though traffic jams remain unavoidable in some areas. Officials have assured that efforts are being conducted urgently to reopen the highway fully and restore smooth connectivity.
To manage the situation, local police from Kalimpong district have been deployed to regulate traffic and assist commuters. Travelers have been advised to stay informed about the road conditions and plan their journeys carefully to avoid delays. With rainfall expected to continue in the region, the risk of further landslides persists, keeping authorities vigilant and prepared for any new incidents on the highway.
