Mr. Lalpura, Chairman of NCM, urged state governments to protect and preserve the Sikh culture and the language.
Iqbal Singh Lalpura, chairman of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), on Friday, 21 March 2024, wrote a letter to concerned state governments, requesting them to preserve and promote Gurmukhi, the language of the Sikh Community. He also called for safeguarding the cultural heritage of the community.
In the letter, Mr. Lalpura underscored the need for the establishment of a sikh development board to maintain the interests of the people and upliftment of the community. He also urged the governments to appoint Gurmukhi teachers and ensure better representation of the community in key institutions.
He further stressed the importance of preserving traditional sikh businesses while giving them a modern touch to boost economic development. He lastly called for the inclusion of Sikh culture, traditions, and contributions in the broader socio-economic policies of the state.
