Russia has confirmed that it will end the delivery of the remaining S-400 air defence systems to India by 2025–2026. This update reinforces the strong and time-tested defence relationship between the two countries. Roman Babushkin, the deputy chief of the Russian mission in India, stated that the contract is progressing as planned and encourages the system’s performance during past operations, including Operation Sindoor.

He mentioned that the S-400 played a key role in recent chaos between India and Pakistan, where it reportedly functioned efficiently. Highlighting the evolving nature of global threats, Babushkin noted that both countries are now looking to enlarge their collaboration in areas like anti-drone technology and air defence modernisation.

India and Russia have a long history of defence cooperation, and this deal further solidifies their strategic bond. Signed in 2018, the $5.43 billion agreement involves five units of the S-400 Triumf system, out of which India has already received three. India had gone ahead with the purchase regardless of warnings and potential sanctions from the United States, underlining its independent approach to national security.

Developed by Russia’s Almaz-Antey, the S-400 is one of the world’s most advanced air defence systems. It can find enemy aircraft, drones, and missiles from up to 600 km away and balance them at a range of 400 km. What makes it even more powerful is its ability to use four different types of missiles, making it versatile and effective across multiple threats.

Mounted on mobile platforms, the system can be relocated quickly, offering flexibility in any conflict situation. As drone threats grow globally, both India and Russia are working to keep their defence systems modern, ready, and well-coordinated for the future.
