Pakistan attempted to escalate tensions with India late Wednesday and early Thursday by targeting military installations in 15 northern and western cities, including areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. These efforts were foiled by India’s air defence systems, the government said. In response, Indian forces neutralised Pakistani air defence radars in multiple locations, including Lahore.

The government stated India's counteraction matched the intensity and scope of Pakistan's aggression. Pakistani drones and missiles were intercepted by India’s S-400 system, while India deployed HARPY drones to disable Pakistan’s air defences. Debris from the downed devices is being collected as evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in cross-border terrorism.

These developments follow India's Operation Sindoor, a 25-minute precision strike early Wednesday targeting nine terrorist camps—four in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Over 100 terrorists were killed, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed. The operation was retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.

India has warned Pakistan that any further attacks will prompt stronger responses. Meanwhile, Pakistani forces have intensified cross-border shelling, killing 16 civilians and one soldier. India emphasized its commitment to non-escalation—provided Pakistan refrains from further provocation.
