According to official sources, The Enforcement Directorate on Friday, April 4, 2025, carried out searches at the offices of Kerala-based businessman Gokulam Gopalan — a producer of the film L2: Empuraan — and others in connection with alleged foreign exchange violations, . The raids were conducted in Chennai and Kochi under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
L2: Empuraan, the sequel to Lucifer and part of a planned trilogy by the Prithviraj-Mohanlal team has stirred controversy due to its critical portrayal of right-wing politics and indirect reference to the Gujarat riots.
Amid growing backlash, actor Mohanlal recently addressed the controversy, expressing regret and confirming that the contentious scenes would be edited out of the film.
