Top Congress leaders, including Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, convene to condemn the Pahalgam attack that killed 26. The party urges national unity and a decisive go
Top Congress leaders convened an emergency meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Thursday to discuss the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. A resolution condemning the attack is expected to be passed during the meeting.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K. C. Venugopal, and Jairam Ramesh, attended the meeting held at the party’s headquarters on 24, Akbar Road. The session began with a moment of silence to honor the victims.
Rahul Gandhi cut short his visit to the United States to attend the meeting. The Congress party expects Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to lead an all-party meeting later in the evening, to take all political parties into confidence and foster a united front.
Kharge and Rahul Gandhi had earlier spoken with Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and senior party leaders from the Union Territory to gather updates on the attack, which took place near Baisaran in South Kashmir and claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
Kharge condemned the incident as a direct attack on the Indian State and emphasized unity in fighting terrorism, urging the government to act with full force and without political finger-pointing.
