The Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted interim relief to former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the ongoing case related to the death of a party supporter during a rally in Guntur. The court remarked that despite stringent precautions, accidents can occur even during large-scale events such as the Kumbh Mela. This observation came as the court considered a petition filed by Jagan Mohan Reddy challenging his inclusion as an accused in the case.

The incident took place on June 18 in Satanapalle, Palanadu district, where a 53-year-old man named C Singayya tragically lost his life after reportedly being run over by a vehicle from Jagan Reddy’s convoy. Following the incident, the police seized the former chief minister’s car and registered a First Information Report (FIR) naming Jagan Mohan Reddy and other party members. The FIR included charges of culpable homicide and causing death by negligence. The incident led to strong political reactions, with Jagan and his party accusing the Andhra Pradesh government of lapses in security arrangements and terming the FIR a political distraction.

In response to the case, Jagan Mohan Reddy filed a quash petition in the High Court, alleging that his name was unfairly included to target him. He also presented a statement from the deceased’s family and highlighted that his party had provided compensation to them. The court’s interim relief marks a significant development in this high-profile case, underscoring the complexities involved in such unfortunate incidents during mass political gatherings.
