Veteran Bollywood producer Salim Akhtar, known for launching the careers of Rani Mukerji and Tamannaah Bhatia, passed away on April 8, 2025, at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. He was 82. Though the cause of death remains unknown, his family has yet to issue an official statement.
Akhtar made significant contributions to Indian cinema, producing films like Aapas Ki Baat (1981) and Qayamat (1983), the latter starring Dharmendra, Smita Patil, and Jaya Prada. He produced Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1997), Rani Mukerji’s debut, and Chand Sa Roshan Chehra (2005), which introduced Tamannaah Bhatia.
Another of his notable productions, Phool Aur Angaar (1993), became the sixth-highest-grossing Hindi film of that year. His filmography also includes Aadmi (1993). Salim Akhtar is survived by his wife, Shama Akhtar, and son, Samad Akhtar. His work continues to be remembered for shaping the careers of major Bollywood stars and delivering box-office hits.
