The Telangana government has announced a ₹1 crore cash award for singer Rahul Sipligunj on the occasion of the Bonalu festival, fulfilling a promise made earlier by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Sipligunj, who hails from Hyderabad’s Old City, rose to international fame for his contribution to the Oscar-winning song “Naatu Naatu” from the 2022 film *RRR*.

Revanth Reddy, during his tenure as Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president, had initially announced a ₹10 lakh reward for Sipligunj in recognition of his global achievement. He further pledged to increase the reward to ₹1 crore if the Congress came to power in the state.

During the recent Gadar awards ceremony, the Chief Minister reaffirmed this commitment, stating that official orders would soon follow. True to his word, the announcement of the cash prize was made to coincide with the Bonalu celebrations in the Old City on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The gesture not only honours Sipligunj’s talent but also celebrates a local artist who brought international recognition to Telangana.
