’90s Bollywood star Shilpa Shirodkar opens up about her life after films—moving abroad, taking a corporate job, and embracing motherhood. Discover her inspiring
Shilpa Shirodkar, a popular face in 1990s Bollywood with films like *Hum*, *Aankhen*, and *Pehchaan*, disappeared from the film industry after her 2000 release *Gaja Gamini*. Now, after years away from the limelight, she has opened up about her life and choices in a conversation on Gauahar Khan’s podcast *MaaaNoranjan*.
After marrying banker Aparesh Ranjit, Shilpa moved first to the Netherlands and then to New Zealand. Reflecting on the shift from films to domestic life abroad, she shared that she took up a hairdressing course to stay engaged. “It felt somewhat related to acting—makeup, beauty, all that,” she said. She briefly worked at a salon but soon found the long hours hard to balance with her married life.
In a surprising twist, Shilpa decided to try her hand at a corporate job. Without prior office experience, she asked her husband to draft a resume. “I told him not to lie. Just write the truth—even that I failed my SSC and did films,” she recalled with a smile. To her surprise, she received two job offers the same day and joined Dun & Bradstreet as a credit controller.
However, life soon took another unexpected turn. Feeling unusually tired at work, a friend suggested she take a pregnancy test— and it turned out positive. Her pregnancy came with its own challenges, including insulin injections and weight loss, but she welcomed the journey with optimism. Ultimately, Shilpa chose to step away from her career once again to focus on raising her daughter, Anushka, embracing motherhood and a life away from the spotlight.
