Priya Sachdev Kapur, widow of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, was seen appeared a high-profile meeting of the Auto Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) in New Delhi. Her role in the gathering as a special guest and director of the family’s investment office signals she is becoming the visible face for the Kapur estate.

The family is locked in a bitter conflict over control of their business empire, worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore. After Sunjay’s sudden death during a polo match in the UK, Priya was appointed director of Aureus Investment (AIPL), which holds key promoter stakes in Sona Comstar. This appointment has not gone down well with all family members.

Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, and one of his sisters, Mandhira Kapur, have publicly alleged that Priya has taken over control of the family's wealth, leaving them sidelined. Meanwhile, Sunjay’s ex-wife, Karisma Kapur, has moved to court seeking a share in the estate for her two children.

In a closed-door session at the ACMA event, Priya expressed willingness to take on responsibilities as assigned by the industry body. Her presence at the venue, among top business leaders, was symbolic sending a message that she is ready to engage publicly in matters concerning the family business.

The legal complications are mounting: a recent Delhi High Court order has asked Priya to disclose all movable and immovable assets belonging to Sunjay as of the date he died. It looks likely this inheritance fight will continue in courts even as Priya begins to play a more active, public role in managing the legacy.
