Actor Parvathy Thiruvothu has openly criticized the Kerala government for its slow response to the Hema Committee report, mocking the delay in implementing the promised industry reforms more than five years after the report’s submission. Her comments followed reports that the police intend to close the remaining cases filed based on testimonies from the committee’s findings. On Instagram, Parvathy tagged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and expressed her frustration, saying, “Can we now focus on why this committee was actually formed? To establish policies and regulations for the industry? What’s going on with that? No rush, right? It’s only been five and a half years since the report was submitted.” The police justified dropping the cases by citing many complainants’ unwillingness to continue pursuing legal action. Out of the original 35 cases registered by the special investigation team, 21 have already been closed, with the remaining 14 expected to be withdrawn soon.

The Hema Committee was set up to examine widespread issues in the Malayalam film industry, especially those impacting female actors. It was created following several public allegations of sexual harassment and abuse, including the prominent 2017 assault case involving an actress that caused national outrage. Since the report was submitted, about 40 related complaints were filed with various police departments. Thirty of these have advanced to the chargesheet stage, involving notable figures such as Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Siddique, and director Ranjith, with investigations still ongoing.
