Comedian and reality show winner Munawar Faruqui is making his much-anticipated acting debut with First Copy, an upcoming OTT series set to premiere on Amazon MX Player on June 20, 2025. The trailer, launched Monday, introduces Faruqui as Arif, a spirited young man from the 1990s who rises to infamy as a film piracy kingpin. Set against a retro backdrop, the series promises a mix of nostalgia, romance, drama, and tension, with Faruqui at the center of a story that explores the early days of illegal film distribution in India.

As Arif’s piracy empire grows, so do his problems. The trailer teases a high-stakes game as law enforcement agencies and Bollywood insiders begin closing in on him. The emotional core of the show lies in Arif’s relationship with his love interest, played by Ashi Singh, adding a romantic dimension to the thrilling narrative. The series also stars seasoned actor Gulshan Grover as a powerful and manipulative figure, Krystle Dsouza as the complex and layered Mona, and Saqib Ayub in a key supporting role. Directed by Farhan P Zamma and produced by Salt Media and RVCJ, First Copy aims to deliver a gripping, character-driven story.

Speaking about his role, Munawar called First Copy “extremely special,” reflecting on how the world of cinema shaped his youth. He described Arif as flawed but full of dreams, making the character both relatable and challenging. Gulshan Grover, portraying Mahesh Kumar, said his role let him revisit an era he had witnessed firsthand, while Krystle Dsouza expressed joy in portraying a woman fighting societal invisibility. With its mix of vintage aesthetics, powerful performances, and fast-paced storytelling, First Copy looks poised to be a binge-worthy addition to India’s OTT landscape.
