Renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese will produce a feature-length documentary titled Aldeas - A New Story, celebrating the legacy of the late Pope Francis. The film, created by Scholas Occurrentes, an educational initiative founded by the Pope, will delve into his belief in the sanctity of creativity and showcase the latest Aldeas cinema project by the movement.

The documentary will include the Pope’s final cinematic interview, filmed exclusively for this project. In a statement before his death, Pope Francis described Aldeas as "an extremely poetic and very constructive project" that explores the core of human life, sociability, and conflict.

Scorsese echoed the Pope’s vision, emphasizing the need for cross-cultural dialogue. He believes sharing personal stories through cinema helps people understand and appreciate each other's perspectives.

Aldeas - A New Story will spotlight how communities in Indonesia, The Gambia, and Italy participated in the Aldeas initiative, producing short narrative films that reflect their cultural stories. The film highlights creativity as a powerful tool for transformation and hope.

Financed by international sponsors and donors, the film will also feature behind-the-scenes footage and previously unseen conversations between Pope Francis and Scorsese. It is produced by Aldeas Scholas Films in collaboration with Sikelia Productions and Massive Owl Productions.
