Manav Gohil, currently basking in the success of his Gujarati film Jalebi Rocks, says he’s eager to take on more roles in regional cinema. Expressing joy over the appreciation the film and his performance have received, he shares, “It addresses menopause, and the positive reactions have been truly heartwarming. The audience’s love is exactly what we worked towards.” Although his role is a guest appearance, Gohil says, “The story needed to be told, and being part of such narratives gives me a strong sense of purpose.”

Reflecting on his over two-decade-long career in the industry, the 50-year-old actor says he’s always aiming to grow. “Whenever I watch my past performances, I feel there was room to go deeper. That desire to improve never fades,” he says.

Talking about the shift in the television industry, where he became a household name with shows like Yeh Meri Life Hai, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, and Tenali Rama, Gohil points out that TV work used to feel more collaborative. “There was a time when producers and actors worked closely, with patience and shared goals. Today, it feels more transactional, and that’s affecting the overall quality and longevity of television content.”

As for being identified primarily as a “TV actor” despite his film roles, Gohil says he wears that label with pride. “Television gave me my start, and now I’m exploring OTT, films, and regional cinema. For me, it’s not about the platform but the performance. I’ll always be an actor first,” he concludes.
