The issue began after Kamal claimed that the Kannada language was born from Tamil, which guide it to widespread backlashed in Karnataka. As a result, his film has been banned from releasing in the state. The Karnataka High Court also expressed disapproval of his remarks and criticized him for not offering an apology.
In reflect to the controversy, actors Rana Daggubati and Abhishek Banerjee shared their views during an interview. Rana questioned why actors are expected to influence how society should function. He pointed out that social media has made it easy for things to become political quickly and said society should rely on scholars, politicians, and knowledgeable individuals for guidance not actors.
Abhishek Banerjee agreed and related the situation to past language disputes like the Marathi-Bihari conflict in Maharashtra. He called such controversies “worthless” and said they are often used by people just trying to grab attention. He emphasized that language should serve to educate and promote culture, not create divisions.
Despite the backlash, Thug Life will still release on June 5 across the country except in Karnataka. It remains uncertain how this ban might impact the film’s overall performance at the box office.
