Jeremy Renner, who joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2011 as Hawkeye, has hinted that he may not return to the role in future MCU films or shows. The actor, known for his appearances in Marvel’s The AvengersAvengers: Age of UltronCaptain America: Civil WarAvengers: Endgame, and Hawkeye season one, revealed in an interview that he was offered a second season of Hawkeye but chose to decline it.

Renner explained on the High Performance podcast that the offer was for half the salary of the first season, despite requiring more work and a longer commitment. Referring to his 2023 snowplow accident, he questioned whether the offer was due to a perception that he was "only half the Jeremy" after the accident.

The actor clarified that the "insult offer" came from Disney’s accountants, not Marvel Studios. Despite the financial disagreement, Renner expressed that he still loves the character and would be open to returning, provided the compensation was fair. However, he acknowledged that his body might be better off without a return at the moment.

Fans have reacted with frustration at the offer, calling it insulting, with some suggesting Renner should seek legal action like Scarlett Johansson did. Although Renner had been expected to appear in future Avengers films, such as Doomsday and Secret Wars, his return now seems uncertain. Currently, he stars in Mayor of Kingstown, which has been renewed for a fourth season.
