The Delhi High Court refused to grant relief to the producer in the financial fraud case tied to Drishyam 2’s foreign rights, reinforcing that due process must
The Delhi High Court has refused to grant relief to Kumar Mangat Pathak, the producer behind the blockbuster Drishyam 2, in a newly surfacing financial fraud case. The court declined to quash the FIR related to alleged misconduct over the Chinese language distribution rights of the film including markets like China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The FIR, lodged in June 2025 by the Economic Offences Wing, names Pathak and others in a case of conspiracy, document forgery, and misrepresentation.
Pathak had argued that the matter was purely a commercial dispute and should not have been criminalised. Alongside, he stressed that he is cooperating fully with the investigation and exploring legal alternatives. Yet, Justice Neena Krishna Bansal observed that the probe is still in its early stages and found no compelling reason to stay or quash the proceedings at this point.
The complainant a businessman based in Delhi claimed he was misled into investing ₹4.3 crore based on seemingly authentic documents, in return for exclusive overseas rights to Drishyam 2. The deal was allegedly conducted by Bharat Sevak, who was working on behalf of Panorama Studios. However, the studio has refused to receive any kind of amount and indicated that this amount may have been completely transferred to another account.
In fact, the court's decision not to give any relief to the manufacturer reflects serious allegations in the case and the importance of following the legal process. As the investigation proceeds, this high-profile dispute will remain at the centre of legal eyes and every new development will be closely monitored.
