A beloved landmark of Mumbai nightlife, Bastian Bandra wasn’t just a restaurant it was an experience. From the first golden lights in 2016 to its stylish revival in 2023, it embodied warmth, laughter, and Bollywood glamour, thanks to the vision of Shilpa Shetty and restaurateur Ranjit Bindra.
But all stories have turning points. Amid ongoing legal turmoil fraud allegations of over ₹60 crore involving Shilpa and her husband Raj Kundra Shilpa recently announced an emotional farewell: “This Thursday marks the end of an era,” she wrote on social media, reminiscing about the countless memories birthed within Bastian’s walls. An evening of nostalgia, “energy and magic” was promised for close patrons to honour its legacy.
The legal case, tied to a loan-cum-investment deal allegedly manipulated from 2015 to 2023, led to their being booked by Mumbai’s Economic Offences Wing. Yet, in official statements, their lawyer has pushed back, calling the allegations “baseless” and noting that related matters were addressed legally through NCLT Mumbai in October 2024.
For many, this is more than the closure of a restaurant. It’s the fading of a chapter that blended culinary artistry with celebrity and local camaraderie. Bastian’s closing signals change both in the industry and in Mumbai’s cultural heart. While the restaurant’s doors may be shutting, Shilpa assures fans that the spirit of Bastian lives on in a new venture, “Bastian at the Top,” where “Arcane Affair” will continue.
