Amid heightened security across the country following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, have opted for a direct OTT release. Originally slated for a theatrical premiere on May 9, the film will now stream exclusively on Prime Video starting May 16.
In a statement released on Thursday, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios announced, “Considering the current national circumstances and increased security alerts, we have decided to bring our family entertainer Bhool Chuk Maaf straight to your homes on May 16, only on Prime Video.” They added, “While we were excited to celebrate this release in cinemas, national sentiment takes precedence. Jai Hind.” Press screenings planned in Delhi and Mumbai were also cancelled.
Tensions have surged between India and Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, targeting and eliminating nine terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK.
Directed by Karan Sharma, Bhool Chuk Maaf is set in Varanasi and follows Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao), a groom stuck in a time loop on the day of his Haldi ceremony.
