The trailer for Aamir Khan’s new film Sitaare Zameen Par was released Tuesday evening, marking his return to cinema after three years. The film was intended as a celebration of Aamir’s distinctive filmmaking style. However, controversy arose when his production house posted a delayed message congratulating the heroes of Operation Sindoor on the same day as the trailer launch. Many on social media questioned the timing, noting Aamir’s silence on the operation until then.

Aamir Khan Productions shared a note on Instagram praising the armed forces for their bravery during Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory strike on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack. The post thanked the Prime Minister and ended with “Jai Hind.” Since Aamir is no longer active on social media, his production house often makes announcements on his behalf.

While some fans welcomed the message, others felt it was “too little, too late,” especially since Operation Sindoor had taken place over a week prior. The hashtag #BoycottAamirKhan began trending on Twitter (now X) by Thursday, with critics accusing him of staying silent to promote his movie. Some tweets were harsh, accusing him of not supporting the Indian Army sooner and calling for a boycott.
